Question: Does Giftedness Go Away

Highly gifted children grow up to become highly gifted adults. However, on the way to adulthood, giftedness may appear to “hide out”. For many complex reasons, exceptionally gifted children are not always high achievers. Giftedness doesn’t go away; only the contexts change throughout the lifespan.

Does giftedness run in families?

Giftedness tends to run in families, so many of the traits that indicate giftedness are common among extended family members. Parents may see a sign of giftedness and consider it perfectly normal, average behavior if several family members have the same trait.

Do gifted students become successful?

Giftedness is revered in our culture; inborn talent—whether intellectual, athletic, or artistic—ensures that children will be successful. However, giftedness is no guarantee of success; the world is full of gifted failures. Yet so many parents hope beyond hope that their children are gifted.

Can you be smart not gifted?
