With all the benefits you get from resin 3D printing, using the part just after the part has finished isn’t one of them. You need to wash the excess uncured resin off the part and then fully cure it in a UV chamber.

Can you use 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean resin prints?

The benefit of using 70:30 alcohol to water ratio is that it’s gentle on skin and floors around the house. The negative of using that ratio for 3D printing is that it doesn’t clean the resin well enough. I do not recommend using 70% IPA in 3D printing. So that leaves 91% and 99% IPA.

How long should I cure my Resin prints?

UV curing stations and lamps will cure each resin layer in 15 to 20 minutes. Sunlight cures resin more slowly and may take about 2-3 hours to fully cure your resin print. Engineering resins reach their optimum properties after about 1 hour of curing in a UV curing station.

Why do you wash resin prints?

The water, glycerin, or mineral oil helps exclude oxygen from the surface of your printed part as you post cure, resulting in a tack-free well-cured surface. If your wash IPA is dirty, this step will help minimize residual resin left on the surface of your print by ensuring it is fully cured.

Will rubbing alcohol hurt resin?

The most common method of resin removal is with chemical solvents such as IPA (isopropyl alcohol). Degreasing solvents such as IPA and dimethyl adipate will effectively dissolve any hardened resin that is leftover after printing, leaving behind a clean surface, without damaging your machinery.

99.9% isopropyl alcohol is ideal for cleaning liquid resin spills and resin off your tools & work area. It dissolves liquid resin and is the most effective way to clean resin off everything! This can also be used as a blending solution for alcohol ink art, or as an additive to create cells in resin art.

Why is my UV resin sticky after drying?

Tackiness or stickiness may be noticed on the surface of some ultraviolet (UV) light-curable adhesives and coatings. This phenomenon, known as oxygen inhibition, is the result of atmospheric oxygen inhibiting the cure on the surface layer of the polymerizing material.

How do you stop resin prints from warping?

Generally ribs are used to increase the bending stiffness of designed part without adding any additional thickness. Ribs increase the moment of inertia that increases the bending stiffness and reduces warping of resin print.

How long does it take to cure UV resin?

You can start to work with poured 2-part resin components after about 24 hours, but you should allow 3 days to allow it to really cure. For UV resin, it takes about 15-20 minutes to cure each layer under a UV lamp, and a few hours to cure in direct sunlight. Cured resin can be sanded, filed, and drilled.
