How Long Does It Take For Glazing Putty To Dry

No one likes to wait, but glazing putty is one of those products that requires waiting. The drying period can last from five to 15 days.

How soon can you paint glazing putty?

It can take anywhere from five to 15 days for it to dry completely. You don’t want your glazing putty to dry too fast, however, as proper curing will allow the substance to last much longer, which means you won’t have to redo the job any time soon.

How long should I let putty dry before painting?

A question that’s commonly asked is how long does putty take to dry. Believe it or not it actually takes between 8-12 weeks before its dry enough to be decorated. Some people don’t leave it this long but we recommend you do.

You can patch in new putty on top of old putty as long as the old stuff is still adhering well. Blow off any remaining dust after you’re done, then wipe the surface with a little bit of Boiled Linseed Oil and apply your new putty. Clean off the excess oil from the glass with a little whiting and you’re done.

Should you prime before putty?

Priming will help the new putty adhere and add another layer of protection. Be sure to prime all of the bare wood, brushing it into all the corners and hard to reach spots. Any primer you get on the glass can easily be scraped away when dry. When the primer is dry you can begin to putty the window.
