Quick Answer: How To Cut Corian Countertops

When you order a Corian countertop, it usually comes precut to the size you specify, but if things change during the installation procedure and you need to cut it, you can do it with virtually any saw that cuts wood, including a circular saw. To use a circular saw, you need a blade that can handle thick plastic.

What kind of blade do you use to cut Corian?

You can use any kind of circular saw to cut Corian, but the blade has to be a triple chip blade made out of tungsten carbide. Any other sawblade can damage your Corian or your circular saw.

Can you cut Corian with a multi tool?

Any blade which will cut wood will probably work, but the best is a triple chip carbide blade. DuPont is adamant that handheld jigsaws should not be used for cutting Corian.

Can Corian be cut with a jigsaw?

Just don’t let the corian guy catch you cutting corian with a jig saw. That’s a big no no with them. I used to to be certified to fab corain and they forbid us to cut with a jigsaw. It can cause the corian to crack.

Can I cut Corian with a table saw?

Corian is best cut with a powered table saw, radial-arm saw or portable circular saw. Hand saws can also be used for cutting, but edges will be rougher and steel teeth will quickly get dull. Curved cuts can be made using a bandsaw, scrollsaw or portable jigsaw.

Can you cut Corian with an angle grinder?

If you have/know someone with a multi tool (Fein), that would work for the back cuts very well. I just cut mine well with an angle grinder and thin cutting disk. 40 watt CO2 laser will go right through it.

In case you are sanding a semi-gloss surface, then you will need to use a 400 grit sandpaper. While a high-gloss surface will require you to start with a 400 grit sandpaper and finish with a 600 grit. Gently sand the Corian countertop that needs to be polished, and make sure to remove all the cuts and scratches.
