Standoffs are small pieces of metal similar to screws. However, instead of a head, a standoff has an anchor where another screw can be inserted. Standoffs are traditionally screwed into a case. Then the motherboard is placed on top of the standoffs and screwed into them. Each motherboard screw requires a standoff.

What do MoBo standoffs do?

Since motherboard cases are mostly metallic, a standoff is used to raise the board off from the metal case so that none of the conductive parts at the bottom of the board can get shorted out – which would happen if multiple conductive circuits end up touching the board.

Should I remove motherboard standoffs?

Do motherboard standoffs need to be brass?

The brass isn’t the issue with standoffs its just to get the back of the board up off the case. Rosewill isn’t retarded they wouldn’t have made them out of copper or anything. And the area where the board touches the standoffs shouldn’t matter if they were copper. It should be fine.

Can you remove standoffs?
