Blocks occur when you slide too hard with your lower body on the downswing (above). The club drops behind you and swings too much from the inside. You have too much lateral motion and not enough turn through the shot.

Is a block the same as a push?

Block (aka Blocked Shot, Flare, Push Slice): A shot that flies directly right of target, similar to a push. A block occurs when the golfer does not properly release the hands through impact.

Why am I blocking my irons?

This common reason for a blocked golf shot is when the hips move too far and too quickly to the left in the downswing. The excessive lateral hip slide is often due to swaying too far to the right on the backswing. Ensure you keep the pressure on the inside of your right foot as you move to the top of your backswing.

Why do my drives go left?

If it’s a pull, there are two likely reasons why the ball is starting left: 1) your body and clubface are aimed left of the target at address, which promotes an out-to-in path; or 2) you’re aiming properly but the clubface is closed too much at the point of contact.
