you will be able to walk on the single layer over the celotex I just meant the celotex wouldn’t take your weight whilst the installation was going on.

Can you walk on Kingspan?

Please note however that you can’t walk, or store heavy goods, on top of ceiling level insulation; for this, we advise installing insulation at the rafters as detailed above.

Can you lay flooring on Celotex?

Concrete slab floors When installing the boards over slab, the first thing you need to do is to install a damp proof membrane below or over the slab, so that it provides continuity with the damp proof course. Install Celotex GA 4000 floor boards onto the slab, making sure that all joints are tightly butted.

Can you use kingspan to insulate a loft?

Some people may prefer to use rigid insulation board to insulate the loft space – for example Celotex or Kingspan – the process is pretty similar to above, although you will need less depth to achieve the same insulation levels (than mineral wool). You will also need a hacksaw to cut the insulation to size.

Is kingspan better than Celotex?

Kingspan and Celotex are essentially the same thing. If you can’t get 45mm, then 50mm will be better. You need to provide 135mm. How you fit that between or beneath won’t matter, so shop around and get the maximum thickness between (Leave 50mm above airgap) and then you have less reduction inside the hall.

Can I walk on insulation boards?

The rigid foam isn’t the issue. It’s the drywall/plaster/sheathing supporting the foam. These products won’t support the weight because they are suspended from the joists and may not be strong enough anyway. You can walk on rigid foam, lots of guys use it as knee boards for doing concrete work.

Is Celotex the best insulation?

90mm Celotex or equivalent will give the best insulation, it’s insulation factor is about twice that of Rockwool. But it needs cutting which takes time and is messy. Rockwool might be easier to install, although you have to keep it in place somehow and if installed vertically ain’t so simple. Its also cheaper.

Can you double layer kingspan?

As mentioned earlier you will need to use Fireline boards in a double layer as these will give a 1 hour fire resistance when installed correctly. Depending on what you are wanting to use the room for you will probably need to insulate up the pitch of the roof also which is another issue entirely.

Does Celotex hold water?

Celotex does not absorb water due to its closed-cell structure. This allows the thermal performance and reliability of the product to be retained over time.

Can you use Celotex between ceiling joists?

I prefer working with celotex as it is easy to cut and makes much less mess than rockwool. By filling in between the joists you can board over the top of them, and make the space usable for storage. If you decide to leave the old stuff in, you could also fix celotex on top of the joists.

What can I use instead of Celotex?

  • Wall.
  • Roof.
  • Thermal Boards.
  • Plasterboard.
  • Metal Framing.
  • Glass Wool.
  • Sheet Materials.

Can you leave Celotex outside?

If stored outside, they should be under cover, or protected with opaque polythene sheeting. Always install Celotex insulation boards in accordance with the instructions supplied by Celotex. Celotex insulation boards should not be installed when the temperature is at or below 4°C and falling.

Can you double up Celotex?

You can use two sheets of 50mm but it is not enough to comply with current regulations. You will not achieve the correct “U Value” which is the thermal resistance.

How can I cut Celotex without dust?

Celotex can be cut with a knife but that can be a bit wibbley wobbleya fine handsaw with a wide blade gives the most accurate cuts and not too much dust. there are special celotex saws available which are not too expensive.

How strong is foam board insulation?

When used for the interior or exterior of foundation walls or below-grade basements, this type of insulation can also improve insulation while also avoiding issues with moisture buildup or leaks. Foam board made from polyisocyanurate (polyiso) generally offers the best insulation capacity and 6.5 per inch.

Can Celotex be used as a Vapour barrier?

Does kingspan need a Vapour barrier? I use Celotex or Kingspan insulation boards which are foil faced, and then I cover them with separate plasterboard. The cheapest insulated plasterboard which uses expanded polystyrene does NOT have a vapour barrier, so don’t use it!Jun 14, 2020

Will Celotex burn?

The danger of fire is actually the smoke According to BBC news “The Celotex RS5000 insulation, which was used in the refurbishment of the famous burnt Grenfell building, released toxic fumes which contain cyanide when it burns. Using them is a health hazard in case of fire or heat load.

What insulation should I use between roof rafters?

Mineral wool offers the best all-round thermal, fire and acoustic performance when compared to rigid foam boards to insulate between rafters. Mineral wool friction fits between rafters, providing an optimum seal and preventing gaps associated with rigid foam boards, which can otherwise lead to unwanted heat loss.

Does Celotex require an air gap?

Established Member. The celotex and osb will act as a vapour barrier for the inside and the small air gap should suffice with the thin battens as mentioned for the “breather” bit. It’s not ideal but it’s only a shed and should last a while.

Can you lay concrete on top of Celotex?

Standard foil backed celotex is suitable for having a concrete slab poured over it.
