Does Thinset stick to KERDI-FIX?
Kerdi fix does not stick to thin-set FYI. So if you pre-treated the backs you just ruined the corner.
Is KERDI-FIX waterproof?
Schluter®-KERDI-FIX is a single component, waterproof sealing and bonding compound with a silane-modified polymer base. KERDI-FIX can be used to waterproof pipe and valve protrusions in the Schluter®- Shower System in conjunction with the Schluter®-KERDI membrane and Schluter®- KERDI-BOARD.
What is equivalent to KERDI-FIX?
I ran out of Kerdi-Fix and had to get another tube quick and couldn’t wait the 2-3 days shipping. After a lot of research I discovered my local big box hardware store sold Sikaflex, a polyurethane sealant which bonded KERDI just as tight and tough as Kerdi-Fix if not better.
What happens if you use modified thinset on KERDI?
Modified thinset mortars aren’t recommended for use with Kerdi because they must dry out to gain strength, whereas the membrane inhibits drying, which can lead to unpredictable results. Schluter’s recommendation is to use unmodified thinset mortar when installing Kerdi over most shower substrates.
How thick can you apply KERDI-FIX?
With the available panel thicknesses of 3/16″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 5/8″, 3/4″, 1″, 1-1/2″, and 2″ (5, 9, 12.5, 15, 19, 25, 38, and 50 mm), KERDI- BOARD covers a broad range of application areas for creating flat, level, plumb, square, and dimensionally stable substrates for the installation of ceramic and natural stone tiles.
Can you tile over KERDI membrane?
Since KERDI is impervious, it does not deprive the mortar of its moisture. This allows the cement to properly hydrate, resulting in a strong, dense bond coat. In general, modified thin-set mortar is not recommended to set ceramic and stone tile, including large format tiles, over the KERDI membrane.
Is Schluter Kerdi fix paintable?
KERDI-FIX is odorless, weather- and UV-resistant. The product is elastomeric, free of solvents, and provides a strong bond to most materials, including wood, stone, concrete, metal, glass, and many synthetic materials. KERDI-FIX can be painted over with most alkyd resins or dispersion paint types.
Can you paint over KERDI membrane?
Yes you can paint over Kerdi board but you will need to give it a light coat of joint compound and do a little sanding.
Is Schluter all set waterproof?
Schluter®-Systems offers a variety of systems for tile installation, including uncoupling and waterproofing membranes, shower systems, and building panels. It is sag-resistant and ideal for setting tile on both horizontal and vertical surfaces.
Can you use Redgard over KERDI-BAND?
Can you Redgard over Kerdi? No, it won’t interfere with the performance or adversely effect it. RedGuard is not harder to adhere to. There is no reason to use both products although it can be easier to use the RedGuard in corners and niches without the build up you can get with kerdi.
Can KERDI-FIX be painted?

Why is KERDI-BOARD out of stock?

Schluter SET™, ALL-SET™, FAST-SET™ or an unmodified thin-set mortar must be used to construct all KERDI seams to ensure watertightperformance of the system.
How long does Schluter all set take to cure?
I know, I said not to use modified thin-set to install tile over a membrane. Schluter has done a lot of testing in the lab and in the real world to develop a modified thin-set that cures completely in 12 hours when used to install tile over a membrane.
Can you put KERDI over drywall?
Yes. Once you install KERDI over the drywall panels, they will be completely protected from the water and vapor in your tiled shower.
How long does KERDI-FIX last?
Unopened packages of Schlüter-KERDI-FIX can be stored in a cool place for up to 18 months. Once the cartridge has been opened, the material has a limited shelf life.
Does KERDI-BOARD go directly on studs?
KERDI-BOARD is quick and easy to install as a substrate for tile coverings over wood or metal framing, and can be used vertically as well as horizontally with panel joints on the studs.
How far apart are KERDI screws?
KERDI-BOARD-ZS are coarse thread screws used to fasten KERDI-BOARD to wood stud framing with the corresponding washers. Vertical spacing: 12” (30 cm) o.c.
Do I need a vapor barrier behind KERDI?
NO – DO NOT us a vapor barrier behind Kerdi. It is a vapor barrier.
How long does waterproofing take to dry before tiling?
Bathroom waterproofing is applied before tiles are laid, using a combination of sheet and paint-on liquid membranes. Two coats are needed, each taking 24 hours to dry. Extra sealant may also be needed once the tiles are down. It’s a job that can take up to four days, so allow plenty of time.
